Dr Hunter is a Lecturer and Composition Convenor at the ANU School of Music.

Dr Hunter is a composer with Scottish, German and Red River Métis heritage. He is a Scottish Gaelic speaker and studied Gaelic culture and music on the Hebridean Isle of South Uist. His work as a composer is based on open works, which encourage a fluid relationship between composer, score, and performer.

Research interests include anarchism, feminism and leftist politics in music composition, performance, and tertiary education; field recordings and climate science; open musical forms and notation; and collaborative multimedia performance. Dr Hunter is an autistic artist living with Crohn’s Disease, and is an active advocate for disability, access and inclusion in academia and the arts.
