Dr Catherine Frieman is an Associate Professor in European Archaeology at the ANU School of Archaeology and Anthropology.
Dr Frieman primarily studies European later prehistory (ca 4000 BCE – CE 500), with specialist knowledge of western European and British prehistory.
She has conducted research in Scandinavia, Germany, Iberia and the UK, directed excavations in southwest Britain and Australia, and has worked on sites and material from across western Europe, Southeast Asia and North America.
Dr Frieman’s research interests include archaeological method and theory, how innovations develop in the past and present, ancient DNA, social practices in the past, Britain at the time of Stonehenge, and stone tools.
